Renobuild Ireland’s decision to have two stands at this year’s Irish Construction exhibition paid handsome rewards. Seamus Redmond, founder/MD of this 20 year old company, explains, “Having already invested close on half a million euros in buildings and machinery over the last two years, we saw this exhibition as an excellent way of getting out there and pitching for the business to continue our expansion. I also decided that I wanted to put a little more emphasis on the two newer arms of our flooring business – interlocking tiles and polished concrete. To that end, we did a non-stop demo of polishing concrete in an area outside the main entrance of the RDS and devoted most of the stand inside to the Traficline tiles. In fact the floor of that stand was made from the tiles – really effective and quick to lay”.
Epoxy resin will always be an important part of Renobuild’s flooring projects but Redmond believes that the two newer arms provide significant strengths for certain applications. For instance, the Traficline interlocking tiles go down quickly and easily without the need for glue. The two major advantages are that they can go down over an existing floor and that they can be laid with minimal interruption to the customer’s work. Call centres and transmission stations would be typical applications for that. However, there are plenty of applications in warehousing and one electronics factory has already used the special electrostatic version on its 750 sq metres shop floor.
Polished concrete is another beast altogether. Being able to polish a new or old concrete floor is not only a novel way to get a really attractive floor but it is environmentally friendly. In the case of an old floor, it removes the need for ripping it up and starting again. Renobuild’s special, Swedish, HTC diamond-based machines will remove the surface paste and result in an even stronger surface than the original concrete. In the case of new concrete, the resulting surface can cut down on lighting bills because of the reflectivity,. Secondly, the Twister machines cut right down on maintenance and totally eliminate the need for cleaning chemicals. Maintenance costs are at least 60% less than with traditional floors. Finally, the finished result is a floor that will outlast most buildings.
Currently, Renobuild are following up on the business leads and visiting sites to provide estimates but Redmond is well pleased with the success of the show. When asked “Will you be exhibiting next year?” , he smiled and said that, as things stand, it is a strong possibility.
